West Country out in force

TREMENDOUS support from West Country farmers brought a crowd of almost 500 to the South West Holstein Friesian Breeders Clubs Golden Opportunity evening sale at Ivybridge.

The Dennis family, who run the Dinnaton herd, hosted the event, which attracted an impressive catalogue of fashionably bred cattle. And it was a blend of the best Dutch and American genetics that drew the highest bid when an 11-month-old Fatal daughter sold to 2200gns.

Consigned by Pam Coryn from her herd in Cornwall, Price Presila 3rd heads for South Devon to join Peter Bosworths Draycote herd.

Derek Coopers Shalama herd usually produces something special, and this time it was the well-bred bred January-born heifer calf Shalama Grant Roxy. She made 2000gns to David Andrews for his Beneknowle herd at Plymouth.

The Sercombe family from Wiltshire produced a smart Grantchester-bred yearling heifer, Nicjohn Juror Farrah. She joins Annabelle Boucher, Somerset at 1800gns.

Averages 11 heifer calves £1045, three yearling heifers £1375, three bulling heifers £1067, two served heifers £1076. (Greenslade Taylor Hunt.) &#42
