  • What the papers say — Countryside Alliance

EDWARD DUKE has resigned as chief executive of the Countryside Alliance after just 12 weeks in the job.

Mr Duke faced immediate criticism over his management style, his £200,000 pay deal and his sacking of the Alliances press officer, Janet George.

He has told the board of the organisation they need a campaigner rather than a businessman as leader. He had faced criticism from county and regional directors of his organisation as well as from the Country Landowners Association.

Mr Duke made his fortune as a company “doctor” – returning loss-making businesses to profit.
