Whats in bag? Firms will say

MOST compound feed manufacturers will declare individual ingredients in livestock feeds, a UK Agricultural Supply Trade Association survey has found.

It shows more than 75% of firms, accounting for about 85% of feed sales, are committed to declaring individual ingredients.

The survey follows UKASTAs announcement that the biggest UK compounders would provide full ingredients lists as soon as possible. The move brought an end to farmers weeklys Whats in the Bag? campaign, which attracted considerable industry support.

Jim Reed, UKASTA director general, said more than 30% of the frims surveyed had adopted full ingredient listing some time ago. "Others have revealed plans to follow suit over the next few weeks and we anticipate the vast majority of feed sales will have full ingredient listing by high summer."

He added that the developments "demonstrated the industrys desire to contribute whole-heartedly in the campaign to rebuild consumer confidence in beef". &#42
