Wiseman dairy bid in the balance

PLANS by Robert Wiseman Dairies to take over two Scottish dairy companies are hanging in the balance, according to The Herald.

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is considering the deals, which would give Wiseman 12% of the UK liquid milk market and over 60% of the Scottish market.

The OFTs interest means that the deal, which involves Aberdeen Milk Company and Scottish Milk, could be referred to the Competition Commission.

The Competition Commission, formerly the Monopolies and Mergers Commission, recently completed an examination of the British milk industry.

That report is with ministers and is expected to be made public later this summer.
