Woodhalls make to 5800gns
A TOP bid of 5800gns was taken when the first big reduction sale from the Woodhall herd of Simmentals was staged at Perth last Friday.
Buyers came from far and wide to vie for the 10 yearling bulls and 82 females offered on behalf of Hector MacAskill. Widely-recognised as one of the top Simmental herds in the country, 28 bulls had been sold at Perth by Mr MacAskill since 1991 to average an impressive £2783

Based in East Lothian, Woodhall is a member of CSW Simmentals – a consortium of the Crailing, Stuartslaw and Woodhall herds formed in 1988 to enable resources to be pooled and top sires to be purchased.
The stock bull, Hillcrest Caesar by Gretnahouse Supersonic, was bought at a breeders sale in Ireland for 7400gns at 10 months old. His dam, Camus Solitaire, also produced Camus Vibrant and Camus Volunteer, both sired by Hockenhull Marvel and owned by CSW. Many of the younger females on offer were by these bulls.
The sales top bid of 5800gns came from former breed president, Dick Pierce, Yanley Farm, Bristol, for the last animal through the ring, the April 1994-born Woodhall Extra Special.
With a 400-day weight of 703kg, he stood first in his class and took male championship at last months Royal Highland show.
