WWFoverhaul call is backed
MPs from all parties have signed a Commons motion supporting calls by the World Wide Fund for Nature for an overhaul of the CAPs objectives.
The motion, tabled by Paul Tyler, Lib Dem farm and rural affairs spokesman has support from Labour, Conservative and Plaid Cymru MPs. It calls on the government to take advantage of the March Inter-Governmental Conference (IGC), to redesign and refocus the objectives of the CAP, as suggested in a recent WWF document.
The MPs and WWF claim CAP objectives are outdated.
Article 39 of the EU treaty, are out of date and should be reformed to guarantee high quality food, a healthy environment and vibrant rural devlopment.
