Young Farmers seek to meet Gwyther
DESPITE failing to understand the logic of appointing a vegetarian as farm minister in the new Welsh Assembly, young farmers are keen to talk to Christine Gwyther.
The leaders of Wales Young Farmers Clubs acknowledge the anger of members, but insist that the furore must not be allowed to obscure the real issues facing rural Wales and young people in particular.
“We have requested an early meeting with her to discuss a number of real concerns,” said Gwenan Prysor, Wales YFC chairman.
“What will matter in the long run is how effective the assembly will be in playing its role to create a secure foundation for the development of the industry in Wales.
“Strong and capable leadership will be required. The competence of Ms Gwyther or whoever heads up agricultural policy will be put to the test and the results closely scrutinised.”
