Zimbabwe’s whites to keep their land

ZIMBABWE has agreed to reduce the planned confiscation of land from the countrys white farmers following pressure from foreign aid donors.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is restoring a £32 million loan after being reassured that there will be only 118 farms nationalised during a two-year period.

IMF officials have also received guarantees that white farmers who do lose their farms will be fully compensated.

A further £500m in international aid rides on foreign donors accepting the assurances of the Government in Harare.

An estimated 4000 mostly white farmers own nearly one-third of the land in Zimbabwe.
