Straw bale biomass boiler lifecycle

Generating energy on farm has become one of the most popular ways for farmers to save money and reduce their exposure to volatile gas markets. Burgess Adams, who grows turkeys on his Herefordshire farm, had a Czech-designed Stepp Trutnov 1 MW straw bale boiler installed by Countrywide Energy earlier this year. The unit costs about £350,000 and he expects to save up to £20,000 on gas in the first year alone.
