Free-range producer/packer Blackacre Farm Eggs has so far raised enough money to donate 280 chickens to families in Africa, following its tie-up with local charity Send a Cow.

Last October the company revamped its 10-pack of free-range eggs, with each sale triggering a 2p donation to the cause. Each hen provides 200 eggs a year to eat and sell, and muck to help grow more food from the land, says Dan Wood from Blackacre.

“The response and support we have had from our retailers since launching our new Send a Cow 10-pack has been fantastic and we really are incredibly grateful to our customers for getting behind us as we work to help crack poverty and hunger in Africa,” he said.

“Over the next year we are hoping to be able to give 1,500 chickens to families in Africa to help them feed themselves.”

Mr Wood says he is planning a trip to Kenya in the autumn to meet farmers that are supported by Send a Cow.
