Eggs Factor cooking competition set to enter next phase

Children across the UK will be cooking dishes early next month for high profile chefs as they compete for the Eggs Factor 2009 title.

The shortlisted entrants, selected from the hundreds who entered, will be cooking dishes in front of a panel of judges, including Michelin Star chef Sat Bains and Martyn Nail, executive chef at Claridges.

Among the delights facing the judges are a tasty “Wallace and Gromelette”, a wicked “Horrid Henry’s Purple Hand Gang Pancake”, an “Eggs-cellent Star-t to the Day” for Hannah Montana and an “Early Morning Knockout” for boxer Carl Froch.

The Eggs Factor competition invited 7-11 year old children to create an egg-based recipe for their favourite celebrity or character.

Andrew Parker, chairman of the British Egg Industry Council, said: “The standard of the entries was very high, and the judges are going to have a tough time picking entries to go through to the national final.

“It’s great to see so many children entering an egg cookery competition, which is testament to the broad appeal eggs have for all age groups.”

The regional cook-offs of the Eggs Factor take place in 10 major cities across the UK from 1-19 June.
