One of Britain’s largest suppliers of goose eggs has announced a record increase in demand from consumers, with increasingly large orders coming from retailers and farm shops, as well as from ordinary consumers.

“We’ve never seen this level of orders,” said joint proprietor of Norfolk Geese and chairman of British Goose Producers(BGP), Eddie Hegarty.

“We used to sell eggs mainly for decorating, but the demand now is for eating them. We’re dealing with orders from a dozen upwards.”

But it’s not just Mr Hegarty who is noticing the increase in demand with BGP members around the country reporting buoyant sales with, for example, Howard Blackwell of Blackwell’s Farm in Essex, experiencing heavy demand from his farm shop.
