Poultry producers have done well in the “Oscars” of food, the 2010 Great Taste Awards run by the Guild of Fine Food, which recognise producers of high quality and great tasting food.


Following a blind-tasting by top chiefs, food critics, restaurateurs and cookery writers Somerset firm Blackacre Eggs and Copas Traditional Turkeys from Berkshire took some of the highest honours.

Blackacre Eggs took home a “one gold star” rating, out of a possible three stars, making it “close to perfect” according to judges. And Copas Traditional Turkeys was awarded a “two gold star” rating, or “faultless” according to the judging panel.

“We are absolutely delighted to have been presented with a one gold star award in the Great Taste Awards. To be the first egg producer to have entered and won is a massive achievement for Blackacre,” said Dan Wood from Blackacre Farm.

“We pride ourselves in producing only the finest, freshest free-range eggs and it is great to have had the commitment of our team recognised by such a well-respected national awards scheme.”

Copas Traditional Turkeys was equally proud to have been recognised with their win, coming on top of the Health & Welfare in Poultry award they won at the Pig & Poultry Marketing Awards earlier this year.

“We are delighted with both wins, which complement each other perfectly to satisfy what consumers are truly looking for in the meat they consume – healthy living conditions, high animal welfare and great taste,” said sales and marketing manager Jodie Cavaye.
