Poultry World reporter Mike Parker dies

It is with sadness that Poultry World announces the death of long-serving reporter Mike Parker, who passed away, aged 78, on 22 October after some time in hospital with heart problems.

Mike first started on Poultry Farmer and Packer in the 1960s, which merged with Poultry World in 1968. He had previously worked for The Boy’s Own Paper, Tobacco World and Farmers Weekly, where he learned his trade.

He built up a reputation as a committed and accurate reporter, and was a talented photographer, winning several awards for his work with both pen and camera. He retired in 1998, but continued to work freelance and was a regular attendee at various shows and poultry events in the east of the country and the midlands. Former Poultry World editor John Farrant described him as a “natural newshound with a real flair for journalism”.

His funeral will be held at the Lincoln crematorium on Thursday 3 November at 11.10am. He leaves a wife, Jan, a daughter, Sarah and a son, Andrew.
