What do the eggs you eat say about you?

Research has found how you like your eggs in the morning can say a lot about your personality, your profession and even your star sign.

The British Egg Industry Council (BEIC) commissioned Mindlab International to quiz 1,010 adults on their personality and egg preferences. Mindlab then fed the information through computers which created a profile of each type of egg eater.

The results are remarkably specific, the data going as far as to predict both personality type, star sign and even the number of siblings you are likely to have.

Andrew Jorêt, chairman of the BEIC said: “People seem to have very clear preferences when it comes to how they like their eggs and we always wondered why. Incredibly, this new research shows that the way you eat your eggs reflects a great deal about you – we call it the ‘eggs factor’.”

The results: Eggs and personality

Poached eggs

The average poached egg-eater is likely to have two children and no more than one older brother or sister. They are found all across the UK and are more likely to be women than men. A taste for poached eggs increases as one gets older. Generally, eaters are also most likely to be outgoing socially and energetic extraverts. They may have a tendency to wear decorative clothing and prefer upbeat and lively music. They are also probably happier than most.

Boiled eggs

The average boiled egg-eater is more likely to be a woman than a man. They could be either working or upper class, and come from anywhere in the UK other than the south east of England. Boiled egg-eaters scored lower on the trait of conscientiousness and thus have a tendency to be more disorganised, careless and impulsive. They may also run a greater risk of getting divorced.

Fried eggs

Fried egg-eaters are most likely to be younger, male and come from Scotland. Fried egg fans are most frequently found among the skilled working classes and have older brothers or sisters. They are typically open to new experiences, creative, curious and imaginative. They are also more likely to have higher memorable dream recall, are better informed about sex, have wider sexual experiences and stronger sex drives.

Scrambled eggs

Scrambled egg-eaters are most likely to live south of Birmingham, with the exception of London, and are least likely to come from Edinburgh and Glasgow. Scrambled eggs are the favorite egg cooking choice for those aged 20 to 39 and eaters were more likely than other types to be in managerial or senior-level jobs and also to own their own home. Scrambled egg eaters were more likely to be less neurotic but also more guarded and less open.

Omelettes

A middle class favorite, the omelette is eaten less frequently than all other egg dishes and finds its greatest fans in Sheffield, Liverpool and Newcastle. Omelette eaters tend to be reliable, well organised and self-disciplined. They are more likely to have tidy homes. Omelette fans may live longer and are less likely to get divorced.

Star sign association

In addition, people with the star signs Aquarius, Leo and Taurus are most likely to choose poached eggs. Those born under Cancer, Capricorn and Libra are more likely to go for fried eggs and those with the star signs of Aries, Gemini, Pisces, Sagittarius, Scorpio and Virgo had scrambled eggs as first choice. Sagittarius, Aries, Capricorn or Scorpio are least likely to eat poached eggs and those with Pisces and Libra star signs are least likely to go for boiled eggs.
