Pioneer’s main focus at Cereals 2008 will be their commercially available winter oilseed rape hybrid varieties; they will have a plot of each on their stand.

A secondary focus is on maize grown under film using the Samco System for grain production. They have a demonstration plot on their stand.

Pioneer’s main messages are:
• The special characteristics of PR45D03 – a Maximus (or Semi-Dwarf) hybrid. PR45D03 has been mentioned within a special category in the 2008 HGCA Recommended List website and booklet. Pioneer believes that now a separate classification should be established, specifically for semi-dwarf winter oilseed rape hybrids in the HGCA Recommended List. The company will be calling for this during the show when speaking with growers.

• The increasing yield advantage from winter oilseed rape hybrids compared to other varieties. The top yielding wosr hybrids, including PR46W21 and PR44W22, are starting to dominate the top of the National List and Recommended List trial results. With a significantly higher oilseed rape grain price these advantages can translate directly into improved gross margins.

• The use of the Samco System to enable grain maize to be grown more widely in the UK An increasing area of Pioneer hybrids are being grown under film using the Samco System in the UK & Ireland. In addition to expanding the area of forage maize in marginal areas this system has the potential to increase the area of maize grown for grain in the UK.

• New products for 2008: Two new Pioneer wosr hybrids will be launched at Cereals – PR46W21 and PR44W22. PR46W21 is a full candidate for the 2009 HGCA RL and PR44W22 has been selected as a southern candidate for the HGCA RL trials.
