FARMER CO-OPERATIVES will be the focus of new research by educational charity The Plunkett Foundation, in a bid to develop a blueprint for the successful marketing co-operative.

The study will examine the critical success factors of marketing co-ops in several countries accross the world, and work closely to implement the findings with six new English farmer groups.

Quintin Fox, the charity‘s head of consultancy, said: “Farmers can bring real economic benefits through co-operating and there is great potential for these models in adding value to commodity products or in the local foods sector.”

The project, jointly funded by Co-operative Action and DEFRA‘s agricultural development scheme, will report over the next two years.
