A strong trade at the dispersal of the 10,000-litre Folly herd owned by George Barker, Northallerton, North Yorks, produced three bids of 2000gns.

Messrs Kershaw, Huddersfield, took several of the best on offer including two at 2000gns – a 13,000kg third calver by Comestar Leader and a calved heifer by Oseeana Astronomical.

A calved heifer by Formation completed the trio going home with G Stevenson and Sons, Cleveland. Of interest to producers, no females had been introduced into the Folly herd for 30 years.

Averages: 142 cows and calved heifers 982; eight served heifers 939 and 44 maiden heifers 526 (Norton and Brooksbank).


A small entry saw just nine bulls sold at the breed society’s Carlisle gathering. Top bid was 2200gns for Pasturehouse Paleface from local breeders J and J Peile. This Harestone Hercules son stood supreme and was bought by W Hollingsworth, Sheffield (Harrison and Hetherington).


A sale of pedigree weaned calves at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, produced a top price of 2100gns for Derosa Vito (beef value 27) from T and J Derosa, Wrexham. The 10-month-old Vito is by a home-bred son of Okeanos and out of a Djerk dam. Buyers were B and A Storrow and Son, Hexham.

Averages: 28 bull calves 865 and 18 heifer calves 709 (Harrison and Hetherington).
