BVMS MRCVS, Barrie graduated from Glasgow University in 1993, immediately moving into production animal medicine within the Dairy and Beef industry. He joined Elanco Animal Health in 2002 where he remained until he became a partner in St David's vets in January 2009. He gained extensive experience in broiler production systems across the world and developed a keen interest in intestinal health.
Through this he has become recognised as a global expert on feed additives controlling coccidiosis in broilers and turkeys. This has led to presenting at International conferences in Europe, Asia and the United States.
Barrie became involved in the pharmacovigilence and legislative side of animal health, developing a deep understanding of the challenges involved, ultimately joining industry and government bodies as an advisor.
Key groups that Barrie attends are: Nicarbazin Residue Reduction Group and the Advisory Committee on Animal Feeding stuffs (ACAF). This committee assesses the impact of feeds fed to animals and the potential associated risk to the end consumer.
He was a member of the legal and scientific advisory committee of the AIC; a member of the National Office of Animal Health's (NOAH) 'Milk Topic Group' and is currently the secretary to the British Veterinary Poultry Association.
Barrie has a keen interest in 'Farm to Fork' strategies and has established and implemented poultry health and welfare policies with major poultry integrators within the UK, Ireland and Europe as well as with McDonalds Europe by working with their respective agricultural groups.
