NIAB, Huntingdon Road, Cambridge, CB3 0LE Jim Orson is the Director of The Arable Group, part of the country’s largest independent crop research and information centre, which formed in 2003 in a merger involving the Morley Research Centre, which Orson previously directed. In 2010 Mr Orson was also appointed to the the BCPC Executive Board. Having gained a BSc in Agriculture from Reading University, Orson joined ADAS where he took on posts as District Adviser, Agronomist and then finally Head of Cereals Development. Following this he became Director of the Morley Research Centre – a farmer-owned research station in Norfolk providing information to support the businesses of some of the biggest farmers in Europe. In August 2002 Orson worked for 3 years for ACRE, the UK government's official advisory committee on GM releases to the environment. He has also served on the Advisory Committee on Pesticides, serves on the Scientific Steering Committee for the farm-scale evaluation of GMOs, Chair of the Weed Resistance Action Group and he is currently on the UK Government’s Advisory Committee for Releases into the Environment.
