Aberdeenshire wheat harvest close to finish

Nick Davidson hoped to finish harvest today at Milton of Clola, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire – about on par with a normal year.

“The spring barley hasn’t broken any records,” he said. “It’s been a bit disappointing at around 4.9t/ha (2t/acre).” The Oxbridge came in at 1.74% nitrogen – above its contract requirements, and the Prestige samples were yet to be tested.

The 20ha (50 acres) of Riband winter wheat was very pleasing, said Mr Davidson, particularly given the disappointing winter wheat yields in the area. “It’s coming off at 18% moisture and we are probably over 9.9t/ha (4t/acre) which I am pleased and surprised with.”
