Alchemy yields well, but problems for Glasgow

Ed Lankfer finished combining his winter wheat at Laurel Farm, Wereham, Norfolk, last night (August 30) and hoped to get started on his spring beans this afternoon.

“The 180ha (444 acres) of winter wheat averaged 7.4t/ha (3t/acre) – the Alchemy was amazing and pulled our average up, but the Glasgow all chitted in the ear and was just a mess,” he said.

“Before the rain we had a beautiful sample, but after the rain 90% chitted in some way.”

The winter and spring barley all made fantastic malting quality, with the Tipple spring barley coming in at 7.2t/ha (2.9t/acre) and 1.2% nitrogen. “We were very pleased with that.”

Mr Lankfer hoped to clear up his 5ha (12 acres) of Fuego spring beans this afternoon.
