An Average barley Harvest

He said: “This year we’re not breaking any record but I’m not disappointed either.”


The Pearl barley is coming off at about 8 t/ha (3.24 t/acre) with 14.5% moisture content.


He said the sample looks good: “It‘s middle of the road.


“But on a good year we would be getting 10 t/ha (4.05 t/acre).


“We’ve done our best but the weather has just been against us this year.”


Mr Hinchliffe said the results are about in line with the 5 year average.


“We’re growing less barley than last year because barley’s just not profitable.


“Prices are just awful.”


He hopes to be starting his oilseed rape harvest later this week.
