Angus barley finished, but osr is too wet
Robert Ramsay of the West Mains of Kinblethmont, Nr. Arbroath, Angus was getting ready to attempt combining his oilseed rape again today
He had tried to start 45ha of Ontario oilseed rape this morning but moisture content was too high at 19%.
He was planning to cut the rape directly and was pleased it was standing nicely. He was uncertain of yields and quality at present.
Mr Ramsay finished 100ha of Sequel on Sunday (29 July). Quality had varied a lot and bushel weight came in between 64-66kg/hl. He was not too disappointed considering how tricky the season had been.
He felt for those growers further south who had been severely affected by the rain and said: “Thank God for two things; one for living in the north and two for the prices, which are holding up for poorer yields this year.”
