Barley yields up in Angus
Winter barley harvest had finished and gone fine for Mike Cumming in Angus, Scotland.
He cut 31ha of Pict and Sequel barley last Monday (25 July) and finished another 21ha of Sequel yesterday at 14.5-15.5% moisture. Pict yielded 9.2t/ha with a bushel weight of 61kg/hl.
Mr Cumming said Sequel pleased him greatly, yielding 9t/ha with 63-65kg/hl bushel weights. He added it was also a very good sample, whereas last year 100% of barley had lodged. The quality was far better this year from better weather and yields were up 12-15%.
He was also pleased to have 720 bails of straw from 31ha. He added: “We’re fortunate to have a decent crop and for the moisture levels to have been very low for this part of the country.”
