His Nijinsky was yielding 7.41 t/ha (3 t/acre) and produced a good crop of straw.


“We‘re very pleased with it,” he said.


Straw from his Tanker was more brittle and Mr Wilcox said it was slightly passed its best. He hopes to transport the combine onto another farm later on Tuesday (Aug 31) to finish off.


He said the combine would be going to 1am as good combining days are at a premium.


The drier has been “going flat out – it‘s costing a fortune”.


“In May/June time we thought it was going to be disappointing and now it‘s done quite well. I‘m pleased.”


Mr Wilcox has another 120ha (290 acres) still to do, thinking it will take eight days of decent harvesting to finish the job.
