Bushel concerns in Dorset

David Chick at Blandford Farm in Dorset has finished harvest “well ahead” of last year’s Sept 1. He was pleased 144ha of Malacca and Robigus yielded on a par with the farm average at 9.5–10t/ha and 10t/ha respectively.

“It has gone well – the weather has been on our side.”

Malacca quality has been fine with good Hagbergs. He said protein has been very high this year and the crop is slightly light on bushel weight.

Optic spring barley yielded “about average” at 7.25t/ha, but he expects problems marketing the crop, as it tested very high for nitrogen.
