Carat barley looks good in Yorks
Harvest was looking promising for Catherine Thompson at Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, York.
Sixteen hectares of Carat winter barley looked a nice sample, and she was hoping for it to yield 7.5t/ha which was better than last year.
The wheat crop also looked promising, with Gladiator looking very good, but Robigus did look a bit weak stemmed, she said.
She added there had been very localized rain in the area, with big differences in crops where the rain fell. Mrs Thompson tried cutting oilseed rape last Tuesday (26 July), but there had been too many red seeds and moisture of over 15%.
