Cautious optimism in Worcs

Rain had stopped play for Andrew Symonds at Lincons Farm, Worcestershire after he harvested 100 tonnes of spring barley.

Optic barley yielded just over 7t/ha, which was better than average. Nitrogen was 1.7% and moisture was 12.5%, which he was reasonably happy with.

“I’d say I was cautiously optimistic yield-wise this year,” said Mr Symonds.

Having had 60mm rain since Sunday (July 24), he was not planning on continuing harvest for another week: “It’s not August yet so nothing has been delayed.”
