Dorset winter barley up on last year

Eighty hectares of Carat and Sequel winter barley averaged 7.9t/ha for Paul Carter in Dorset. He was pleased the yields were up on last year and the crop was of good quality.

Mr Carter expected to start combining oilseed rape by the end of the week. “The crops are looking very promising at the moment.”

He hoped harvest would be better this year for Sherbourne Castle Estates. “The production costs are lower and we are hoping for a higher sale price than last year.” His winter barley crop was not yet sold.
