First wheats disappoint Yorkshire grower

When FWi last spoke to Ian Elsworth he had expected to finish his wheat by August 10. “I regret saying that now – we didn’t finish it until 20 days later as the combine didn’t move for 10 days because of the rain.”

He finally finished the 80ha (200 acres) of Einstein and Robigus wheat at Raskelf, North Yorkshire, on Saturday (August 25). “The first wheats wouldn’t have made over 8.6t/ha (3.5t/acre) which is disappointing for us.”

The final 12ha (30 acres) of Fuego spring beans looked well and Mr Elsworth hoped to be into them in the next day or so.

  • Crop: Winter wheat
