Golden Wonder payment concern

The collapse of Golden Wonder has left at least one potato trader out of pocket, with one of its farmers owed payment for his entire crop, say industry sources.

John Field-Richards, the NFU’s insolvency adviser at Deloitte, said Kroll, the administrators now in control of the fallen crisp manufacturer, would only pay for supplies delivered after 6 January.

“Supplies made prior to the appointment of the administrators will rank as unsecured creditors and receive any dividend that may be available in any subsequent liquidation.”

It is still thought by the NFU that there were no direct suppliers to Golden Wonder.

Meanwhile, more than 60 expressions of interest have been received from companies about buying all or part of the manufacturer, and its Pringles Mini brand has already been sold to Irish crisp maker Tayto.
