Harvest 09: SB ready in Angus

Robert Ramsey’s harvest at West Mains of Kinblethmont, Arbroath, Angus, was rained off today (10 August), but he hoped to be into spring barley tomorrow.

“We’ve been pretty lucky up to now.” He finished oilseed rape over the weekend, and was pleased with above average yields from high erucic varieties Marcant and Maplus.

“The winter barley was all over the place – good, bad, and indifferent.” Cassata and Volume performed well; Pearl proved variable; and Sequel was reasonable, he said.

Some neighbours had started on spring barley and Mr Ramsey hoped to be into his Optic and Publican tomorrow.

Winter wheat on the light land was nearly ripe, and was likely to come before the spring oats, he added.

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2009/10 variety with very high UK treated yields and a maximum 9 rating for resistance to lodging with and without PGR. Combined with the highest second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, Duxford will continue to help UK growers meet the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
