Keith Harris expects to start combining his winter wheat at Silton Manor Farming, Gillingham, Dorset, on Sunday, weather permitting.
“It looks a bit thin after a wet winter and dry spring. Not much has been started in the area.”
Mr Harris finished cutting oilseed rape last week, and was pleased with bumper yields of 4.1t/ha (1.7t/acre) off 45ha (111 acres) of Castille and Astrid.
Most people would be finishing rape in the next few days, and winter barley harvest was almost complete, he added.
Crop: Oilseed rape
Varieties: Castille and Astrid
Area: 45ha (111 acres)

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2009/10 variety with very high UK treated yields and a maximum 9 rating for resistance to lodging with and without PGR. Combined with the highest second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, Duxford will continue to help UK growers meet the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
