Harvest coming to an end in Worcestershire

Andrew Symonds hoped to finish the last leg of harvest at Lincoms Farm, Worcestershire, today (August 28), where he was combining spring barley.

“We’ve had a fairly good run in two dry stints and haven’t had to dry too much,” he said. Most of the wheat came in at 13-14% moisture, and the Tipple barley was at 11.5% moisture today. “It’s yielding 6.6t.ha (2.7t/acre) today.”

That was better than the average of 6t/ha (2.4t/acre) from the 140ha (346 acres) of Tipple and Optic, which came in at 1.55% Nitrogen with low screenings.

Wheat yields were also slightly down, at 8t/ha (3.2t/acre) for 100ha (247 acres) of Einstein, which tested at 12% protein and 250 Hagberg.

“Generally we’ve had a much better harvest than anticipated,” he said.
