Harvest Highlights – Combining to continue in Surrey?
Surrey grower Jason Butler was planning on trying to combine later today [27 July] when Harvest Highlights spoke to him this morning.
“We’re just kicking our heels, itching our feet and watching the sky at the moment.”
Yesterday had proved to be too wet to combine, he said.
Currently he was around half way through his 280ha (700 acres) of oilseed rape at Penn Croft Farms, Farnham. Most had been cut at 12-14% moisture content. He had finished 45ha (112.5 acres) of ES Astrid that had yielded 4.4t/ha (1.75t/acre), while he was currently combining Castille.
Flotation tyres had been fitted to the combine to minimise any damage to soils.
