He has had to leave 30ha (75 acres) out of the total 80ha (200 acres) because of problems with sprouting.
“We‘ll finish the wheat and then go back to the rape in order to do a salvage job.”
But the wheat has not been too bad. “It‘s all standing so we getting well through it now.”
He has done 140ha (350 acres) and only has another days worth of wheat left to combine.
“Yields are good but unfortunately it‘s not worth anything.”
Spring barley proved to be quite reasonable as well, with much of it making malting quality.
Mr Alison was very impressed with his Class combine and its Vario header.
“It had a definite benefit and it‘s worth buying.”
Mr Alison has been plagued by bad weather, saying: “We‘ve been frustrated by the weather, as everyone else has, but we still don‘t know the knock on effects from it.”
Mr Alison said he had a visit today (Sept 2) from Ross Finney, the Scottish farming minister, on a fact finding mission.
