HGCA’s biofuel carbon sums

The Home-Grown Cereals Authority has unveiled details of a new model to calculate total carbon emissions from producing wheat-based bioethanol.

The announcement aims to maintain pressure on government ahead of its decision on the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation, expected before Christmas, said HGCA’s Alastair Dickie.

“It’s increasingly obvious that government is about to make big decisions in this area.

The model provides the necessary sums to demonstrate the improved greenhouse gas emissions of biofuels versus fossil fuels.”

The interactive tool could be used to highlight areas of inefficiency and give reassurance to the public that “green” fuel can deliver genuine environmental benefits, he says.
