Areas of Chris Hewis’ swathed Excalibur oilseed rape are lying in water at his farm in Habrough, Lincolnshire, he told Harvest Highlights this morning.
He had managed to clear 6.8ha (17 acres) out of a total of 39ha (97 acres) between thunderstorms at 11% moisture. Yield was around 3.75t/ha (1.5 t/acre). “It’s frustrating, slow and late.”
Mr Hewis also had 40ha (100 acres) of Pearl winter barley to cut and said ground conditions were a problem with pools of water in places. “We have to leave patches and work around them,” he said. Up to half an acre was submerged, he estimated.
