Maize dry matters on the rise

The last week of sampling for the FW maize countdown shows increases of 1-2% on sites that were not yet harvested, says Grainseed technical manager Neil Groom.

But all three remaining monitor farms have harvested crops in dry conditions.

SAC farm manager Hugh McClymont says his crops have yielded well this year and that he has only a field grown for grain maize under plastic left to harvest.

He drilled a small acreage for grain as an experiment, but with the option of harvesting for silage.

However, good conditions mean he will be combining and crimping the crop of Baltis once grains have fully dried down.
