New guide for spud harvesters
A NEW GUIDE to help potato growers reduce bruising during harvest has been produced by the British Potato Council (BPC).
As well as providing generic information on harvester settings and operation according to soil type, it also has individual sheets for popular harvester makes and models, said author Fraser Milne.
“Getting the crop out of the ground is clearly a critical operation and regardless of the type of machinery used, setting and mode of operation are key factors.”
BPC’s Rob Clayton added: “If it causes just one setting to be reassessed then it could make an important difference. It reflects what growers have told us they want.”
The pack is available from your purchaser, purchaser agronomist or fieldsman. For more information contact Rob Clayton on 01865 782269, or visit www.potato.org.uk
The guide has been developed in association with a number of potato harvester manufacturers.
