Pleased at White Hall Farm
Jamie Rogers has finished harvest at White Hall Farm, Hampton Bishop, Herefordshire, and is pleased with above average yields.
“It’s gone very well – we’re very pleased.
“We had enough rain for the medium soils to excel. The lighter sands near Ross on Wye disappointed, but any of the traditional Herefordshire soils have done well.”
Duxford winter wheat averaged 10t/ha (4t/acre) as a second wheat and about 10.5t/ha (4.25t/acre) as a first wheat.
Castille oilseed rape, however, yielded slightly below average, due to waterlogging in the winter. “It struggled a bit, and averaged 3.3t/ha (1.5t/acre).”
Most farmers had finished harvest in the area, said Mr Rogers.
“It was looking a bit touch-and-go last week, and straw was a concern as there was a lot to bale. But this dry spell has been a saving grace.”
