Poor drilling conditions yield varied results

Eighty hectares of wheat remain to be cut for Norfolk farmer Nick Pratt from Downham Market.

The best yielding variety was 130ha of Access which came in at 8.5t/ha, then Cordiale at 8t/ha and Solstice at 7.75t/ha. He expected to have some disappointing yields due to bad drilling conditions last autumn, with some patchy fields 0.5t/ha down on last year.

Mr Pratt said quality looks good, with bushel weights staying high at 75 – 76kg/hl.

With 25ha of linseed and 200ha of beans still to cut, progress is slightly behind normal, although better than this time last year, he said.
