Reduce water volumesfor second desiccant sprays in potatoes

Reduce water volumes on follow-up desiccation applications, Tom Robinson, Syngenta’s application specialist, advised at last week’s East Anglian Potato Event.

“The initial application should be at 400 litres/ha, to get good penetration of the foliage,” he said. “But the next spray in the desiccation sequence should be made at 200 litres/ha, to get more spray on the target stems and lower leaves.”

Angled sprayer nozzles would also help achieve better targeting. “Fit them facing forwards and backwards along the spray boom, as this will reduce drift. And set the sprayer at the correct height of 50cm above the crop.”
