A reduced rate slug pellet promises to minimise levels of metaldehyde in surface water, while maintaining high levels of slug control.
The 2mm pellet is smaller than most on the market and provides an unparalleled number of baiting points, says technical manager Paul Fogg.
“This is critical as slugs are indiscriminate feeders and more baiting points lower the risk to the crop.”
Leaching of metaldehyde into watercourses is further reduced by the product’s resistance to rainfall.
“The integrity of the pellet in relation to rainfall means that the pellet is present on the soil surface for longer,” says Mr Fogg.
“This increases the interval between any repeat applications and could remove the need for follow up treatments.”
If applied at 5kg/ha the product delivers 150g/ha of metaldehyde which falls below the 250g/ha per application guideline from the Metaldehyde Stewardship Group, he adds.
