Scots farmers wanted for green energy scheme

One of Scotland’s leading renewable energy developers is looking for 40 farmers to join a novel wind and hydro power scheme.
The ‘GreenPower-Share’ programme aims to identify suitable sites for 20 single wind turbines and 20 small hydro projects. Landowners will be awarded a direct stake in the project through an allocation of shares, instead of traditional land rental payments, and will be able to invest in additional shares over the lifetime of the project.
“We are keen to engage with Scottish farmers and landowners to open their eyes to the huge benefits of hosting renewable energy projects on their land,” said Nick Mackay, director of GreenPower.
“We developed our GreenPower-Share scheme to enable farmers, for the first time, to own a share in an energy development without any payment being required. This will provide an opportunity for farmers to benefit from dividends and the long-term profitability of the project.”
