Shrops first wheats look fantastic

High oilseed rape moisture was the problem for Duncan Whiteman at Arlescott Farm in Shropshire.

Regina winter barley yielded around 6.25t/ha which was average considering the light ground, he said. The “bold crop” was of “fairly good quality”.

The oilseed rape was just about ready but at 14% moisture it was too wet to cut. He was waiting for the moisture to drop below 12% because the high cost of fuel meant he could not afford to dry the crop.

The first wheats looked fantastic, he said. “They’ve kept standing, and so are looking promising”.
