David Hues of Galteemore Farm, Wiltshire began combining oilseed rape today at 2:00 pm at 22% moisture and he wanted better weather to cut more.
So far he had done 80ha (200 acres) of Castille and still had around 280ha (700 acres) left to do.
This year, his Saffron winter barley, to be used for feed, yielded 3 t/acre
Mr Hues thought he had faced every problem one could imagine this harvest, but said “adverse weather and ground conditions are the main problems”.
Before the rain he thought harvest would be on schedule, but now overall progress was falling behind.
Mr Hues added; “We’re in for a very difficult summer, but it’s a problem for everyone.”
