Welford disappoints in Kent
Kent farmer Jonathan Tipples in Marden has finished Expert oilseed rape with a good average of 3.75t/ha. He said it was a very dry crop cut before the rain in July, with moisture sometimes below 5.5%.
Mr Tipples said there was too much take-all on Welford second wheat leaving disappointing yields, and a lot of shriveled grain. Welford grown as first wheat yielded around 10t/ha. He said he had to dry the entire cut crop as moisture was up to 18%.
He added: “I can’t imagine from the very dry weather it will have a very high bushel weight.”
