Wheat harvest started on Lincs/Cambs border
Mark Woodruff at Hundreds Farm, Crowland on the Lincolnshire/ Cambridgeshire border was busy cutting Cordiale and Einstein winter wheat.
He said it was not yielding badly, with Cordiale around 8.75-10t/ha. He said the yields varied between fields, and struggled on lighter land.
Moisture was between 16 and 14%. He said: “Last year’s experience of bad weather told us you’ve got to take it at 16%.”
All oilseed rape had been cut, and yielded around 4.2t/ha. Mr Woodruff was fairly pleased despite the odd red seed, although he was concerned by the low prices for the crops.
